Livewatch Home Alarm Review

For the homeowner who is looking to add a basic level of security to their home at a low cost, LiveWatch Security serves this demographic perfectly. LiveWatch Security is a self-install home security service provider that offers “plug & protect” packages.  While some may be turned away from LiveWatch due to the minimal selection of smart home integrations, their low-cost monthly packages are perfect for apartments, vacation homes, and small businesses.

Overview

LiveWatch was founded in 2002 by a former paramedic. With decades of experience in the EMS field, the importance of fast communication and quick response times during an emergency was always a prevalent subject.  The company set out to take a new approach to the antiquated home security systems of the 1990s. LiveWatch’s approach to home security revolves around their product being simple, affordable, personalized, and reliable. By offering a “trimmed-down” home security package with a short contract span, paired with the company’s Plug&Protect capabilities, LiveWatch Security has been able to secure it’s place as a leading home security provider.

LiveWatch takes a stripped down approach to their products and pricing with 4 levels of monthly service and 2 levels of equipment. LiveWatch also offers its customers a selection of additional add-on sensors, cameras, switches, and a limited offering of home automation devices. With short, 12-month contracts and no early termination fees, customers are able to secure their homes for a reasonable price, without the long commitment that other home security companies require.

Services and Costs

While still customizable to each customer’s needs, LiveWatch takes a simplified approach to offering home security services. Each of the three monitoring packages, ranging from $19.95/month to $49.95/month, require customers to also pay an one-time equipment fee, which is $199 for the $19.95/month monitoring plan, and $99 for the remaining three home monitoring packages.

Once the customer selects which monitoring package they would like to build their home security system around, then are then prompted to select a base equipment package. The Plug&Protect Basic and the Plug&Play Complete are the two options, with the only difference in the two being the control plan, with the Basic coming with the XTi-5 wall mounted control panel, and the Complete featuring the IQ Gen 2 control tablet. The remaining items that come with the base system include 2 wireless door sensors, a wireless motion detector, a keychain remote, and yard signs and stickers to display around the home. LiveWatch allows customers to customer the amount of sensors and remotes they’d like to add to their package. Additional door sensors are $30/each, motion sensors are $78/each, and keychain remotes are $29/each.

It’s important to note that all LiveWatch plans and products do not come with professional installation, and no technicians are available for in-home installations. Each device included in a LiveWatch home security system was designed for ease of set up. The average system installation should take about 20 minutes, and requires no drilling, thanks to 3M adhesive strip backing on all devices. Once installation is complete, customers are prompted to contact a technician via phone. The tech will run virtual tests on the system to ensure that everything is correctly set up.

LiveWatch Equipment & Features

Don’t let LiveWatch’s limited selection of home security and automation devices fool you into writing them off! The idea behind a limited selection of products is to allow homeowners to select the essentials they’d like in their home, and keep costs low. While each base package comes with just 5 devices, LiveWatch offers enough of a variety to create a well-rounded home security system.

LiveWatch Home Security Equipment

LiveWatch IQ Control Panel -LiveWatch’s home security system’s control panel is one of the most impressive tablet-style devices on the market. Built on a 7’ Android tablet, the IQ control panel allows the customer to arm/disarm their device with one touch, check the weather, view any camera feeds on their system, and install a small selection of apps. A unique feature to the IQ control panel, the device also features a front-facing camera that will identify the person disarming the device.

Wireless Glass Break Detector -Wireless glass break sensors add an additional level of protection to a home by monitoring windows throughout each room in the home. Contrary to beliefs, glass break detectors actually operate based off the pitch and frequency of glass breaking. LiveWatch’s glass break detectors have a range of up to 20 feet, allowing customers to cover multiple windows with one device.

IQ Motion Sensor -The IQ montion sensor is included in each LiveWatch home security package, and for good reason. When installed correctly, a motion sensor acts as a second line of defense in your home if an intruder manages to get past an exterior alarm. The IQ motion sensor also allows customers to set a “pet-friendly” trigger so that pets under 40 lbs. do not trigger the alarm.

Keychain Remote – Similar to a keyless entry fob for a car, LiveWatch’s keychain remote gives customers control over arming and disarming their system with a click of a button. The remote also includes the ability to activate the alarm, turn lights on and off, and open a garage door

LiveWatch Home Security Cameras

LiveWatch IP Hi-Res Video Camera -Designed for use with LiveWatch’s home monitoring service, the Hi-Res IP Video Camera provides live and recorded 720P HD footage. The footage is accessible to LiveWatch customers through web-enabled computers, cell phone web browsers, or downloadable apps. Like the rest of LiveWatch’s product line, the IP video camera is pre-programmed to make installation a breeze.

Indoor Wireless Fixed IP Camera with Night Vision -LiveWatch’s solution for homeowners who want round-the-clock video monitoring of their home, the IP camera with night vision features 1080P video quality and clear night vision abilities up to 20 feet. It’s important to note that these cameras are not a part of the Plug&Protect package, and may take additional time to install and set up.

LiveWatch Home Monitoring Equipment

IQ Smoke Detector -Paired with LiveWatch fire monitoring, the IQ smoke detector will automatically dispatch the fire department to your home in the smoke alarm is triggered while the system is armed. Heat sensors in the device can also identify a fire with no smoke, such as an electrical fire.

LiveWatch Firefighter -The LiveWatch Firefighter was created to work concurrently with existing smoke detectors throughout the home. When the Firefighter detects the sound of a smoke detector in the home, it sends an alert to the central monitoring system, as well as the control panel.

IQ Wireless Garage Door Tilt Sensor -Worried about someone forcing their way into your garage? The Wireless Garage Door Tilt Sensor is mounted to the garage door, and triggers each time the device moves beyond 45 degrees.

IQ Wireless Flood Detector – By placing the wireless flood detector in an area that is susceptible to flooding, the sensors will trigger an alert if moisture is detected under the sensor.

LiveWatch Home Automation Equipment

GE Z-Wave Plug – In Fluorescent Light and Appliance Module -For homeowners who want to integrate smart home devices to their LiveWatch system, the Z-Wave module acts as a central “hub” to allow the individual devices to be controlled from the IQ dashboard.

GE Z-Wave In-Wall Dimmer -The Z-Wave dimmer gives homeowners the dual abilities to control their lights in a traditional sense by using the dimmer switch, or through their IQ dashboard or mobile app to set lights to a timer or turn them on/off while out of the home.

GE Z-Wave Outdoor Module -The Z-Wave outdoor module acts as another hub for any electronics or devices that you may want to add to a smart home platform, but comes in a study housing that is designed to withstand the elements.

GE Z-Wave Wall Receptacle -The Z-Wave wall receptacle was created to give homeowners the ability to replace traditional electrical outlets with an outlet that can be controlled through the IQ dashboard or mobile app. Any devices that need to be plugged in can then be controlled through the new smart outlet.
